Swimming Lessons for Children | Tampa | Riverview

The Swim-Float-Swim Sequence

Children in this age group (12 months and older) are taught the essential survival skill of rolling onto their backs to float, as well as basic swimming techniques, including the front crawl. Students will swim with their heads down for approximately 3 to 5 seconds. When they need to breathe, they will independently rotate onto their backs to float, rest, and then flip over to resume swimming. They will repeat the “swim-float-swim” sequence as many times as necessary until they can swim to safety.

Upon completing the course, your child will have the survival skills needed to escape a potential drowning situation, along with the ability to enjoy recreational swimming. Toys and games are incorporated into lessons to make the experience more enjoyable. Lessons are customized to meet the physical, developmental, and emotional needs of each child. All lessons are one-on-one and conducted four days a week (Monday through Thursday).

Each lesson lasts approximately 10 minutes. Students are required to attend four lessons per week at the same scheduled time each day, Monday through Thursday, for the duration of the 6- to 8-week course. Please note: Lessons are performance-based, not time-based, so there is no set “exit” based on duration. Because no two children are alike, each lesson is tailored to the individual child’s needs. Parents or caretakers are invited to observe each lesson from the pool deck.
